BUNCHESDIRECT IS CURRENTLY RUNNING A CONTEST FOR THE BEST ENGAGEMENT STORY WE CAN FIND. THE WINNER WILL RECEIVE A $1000 SHOPPING SPREE FOR WEDDING FLOWERS FROM BUNCHESDIRECT!

WE’LL BE UNVEILING THE ENTRIES OVER THE NEXT LITTLE WHILE AS WE RECEIVE THEM. HERE’S Zachary’s entry, of a surprise trip to ireland and an even more surprising proposal.

Our engagement story begins in September 2012 when my Girlfriend Julie surprised me with airplane tickets to Ireland. We both have Irish heritage and she was so excited to be able to go to Ireland with me. We have a mutual friend in Ireland and she offered us a place to stay during our trip. Knowing how important this trip was to Julie and knowing how much I loved her and wanted to be with her for the rest of my life. I started to plan my proposal.

First I had to get a ring. I went to a local small jeweler with a photo of a ring that I wanted specially made and the plan was in motion. Week to week I would make payments on the ring and look at the progress the jeweler had made. One week before our vacation, I made the last payment on the ring and I took it home. It was all I expected and more.

Next, I scheduled time to meet with Julie’s parents to get their blessings. The meeting went great and on September 5, 2013 we were on a plane headed for Ireland.
The trip was going great, and I can honestly say I had never been happier or more confident in my life knowing I was going ask my best friend to marry me.

The day before I was going to propose, Julie had a bad day and she was feeling down and out of sorts. I just wanted to assure her that I loved her so much and tell her about the impending proposal. It was so tough to keep my plan a secret.

The next day we were off on a scheduled tour to the Cliffs Of Moher, Ireland. We were having a great time looking at all the sites. We ended up losing our camera at one of the first places we stopped but nothing was going to get in the way of my proposal. I brought Julie up to a beautiful spot away from all of the other people on the tour.

The spot was high up on top of the cliffs overlooking the ocean on a beautiful grassy area. I held Julie tight and then told her how much she meant to me. I knelt down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She was taken by total surprise and was so happy she just could not stop crying. She was so emotional and of course she said yes. We had our friend with us on the trip and he captured the moment with a perfect photo.

HERE’S Janie t’s ENTRY, OF a love story that involves 3 different cities in manitoba, tropical bali in indonesia, and money from 65 countries.

After having been with someone for 3 years, the relationship ended. I was devastated and down in the dumps. My friends tried EVERYTHING to perk me up, but nothing seemed to help. After a few months had gone by, some friends asked if I would be interested in going to Dauphin’s Countryfest for the July long weekend in 2012. My immediate answer was no; I was definitely not in the mood to party after the break-up.
My friends are extremely caring, loving and supportive…and also very sneaky. I received a text message one night from a friend saying “Too bad, you’re coming to Countryfest! Your ticket has been bought; you have a place to sleep and ride there! No excuses!”. I realized they simply would not take no for an answer, so I gave in. I texted my boss at 11pm asking for a few days off and Thursday morning at 6am, we were en route to Dauphin. I thought just MAYBE this is what I needed to get my mind off of everything.
Little did I know, saying “yes” to my friends was the best decision I’d ever made…because it lead me to meeting the love of my life, Kevin. I never thought I would meet my future husband at Countryfest, but I did. It was love at first shot – jello shot that is! From that day on, we were inseparable. I lived in Winnipeg, he lived in Portage la Prairie…so we traveled 1h15 each way, every day to see each other and spend time together. It wasn’t easy waking up at 5:30am all those mornings to make it to work on time. After a short period of time (and a lot of money spent on gas!), Kevin moved in with me.
One of the many things we had in common was our love for travelling so we decided to plan a few trips! My cousins invited us to join them in Mexico in January 2013 – so we did! Just as soon as we got home and unpacked, we were all packed up and ready to go travelling again – this time to Bali, Indonesia! We arrived on Valentine’s Day and we were so excited to see what Bali had to offer! Our first week there was filled with day trips to see breathtaking rice fields, amazing monkey forests, and a beautiful black sand beach. Everything was going great and we were having a wonderful time soaking up the hot sun, trying new foods, experiencing the culture and of course…shopping! We thought “what a perfect week, let’s experience even more of Bali the 2nd week!”.Unfortunately, my stomach had other plans for us…I ended up becoming extremely sick – I was bed ridden for the whole 2nd week of our trip. I went (or should I say Kevin carried me) to the Medical Clinic twice, I was on 5 different kinds of pills/antibiotics, received 2 “who knows what it is but it’ll make you feel better, I promise” injections, and sucked on slices of watermelon for nearly 6 whole days. I just wanted to go back home to Winnipeg. So after 2 weeks, we said buh-bye to Bali and helloooooo Winnipeg! As much as we enjoyed our time in Bali, we were so happy to be back in Canada.
We had talked about engagement early in our relationship, but I had no idea what was about to hit me…just over a month after coming back from Bali, Kevin asked me if I would continue to travel with him. I said “Of course! I love travelling and want to see the world!”. He simply smiled and said “ok, good”. I thought it was odd, but left it at that.I was coming home from work that Wednesday , April 3rd, 2013. I pulled into the drive, opened the door only to have dogs run at me and greet me with jumps and kisses. Put my purse and keys away and walked into the living room like I always do.
Something was different…the blinds were all shut which was odd since I always opened them up before leaving for work in the morning. I headed towards the window and opened the blinds, and when I turned around I noticed Kevin standing there with a HUGE banner taped to the wall. I couldn’t believe my eyes – I was so overwhelmed with emotions I didn’t even know what was happening! I remember him starting his “speech” and the lines that stood out the most to me were: “Not long ago, you said you would travel the world with me. I can’t imagine travelling the world and seeing it all with anyone other than you, for the rest of my days. Janie, will you marry me?”. I burst into tears hysterically and said “yes!! YES YES YES!!!”. I was jumping for joy and was so excited to start announcing our engagement!
When I took a closer look at the banner and asked him what it was, he explained:

“I’ve had this ring for a while. My plan was to propose to you on the Elephant Safari Ride in Bali, but you got so sick that 2nd week I never really got a chance to. Since I wanted to do something unique and special for you, I tried so hard to come up with something that would top proposing to you on an elephant – and I came up with this.”The 20-foot banner which said “Will you marry me?” contained dollar bills (and 1 canadian toonie!) from SIXTY-FIVE different countries around the world! He had taped each bill to create those 4 magical words and vowed to travel to each of those places with me! It was the most unexpected, wonderfully amazing, exciting and unique surprise proposal a girl could ever ask for! J Special thanks to RBC for helping Kevin get all these bills!

HERE’S SARAH I.’S ENTRY, of a high-school friendship that blossomed into lasting love.

It was eight years ago when I first met my best friend, and soon to be husband. Who knew you could meet the love of your life at the young and tender age of 16? It is interesting to look back and reflect upon this.

We had first met at our high school, and Shaddy (my fiancé) was a grade older than I.  We started off as really good friends, and there wasn’t a day that passed in which we did not see one another. We would meet at each other’s lockers, walk each other to class and/or simply roam the halls making each other laugh and telling jokes. We would spend time with one another daily. The days turned to months, and as the months progressed our feelings became inevitable for each other.

Shaddy was the first one to make a move and he asked me to be his girlfriend. The first thing that came to my mind was; do I want to take our amazing friendship and turn it into something else? With deep reflection and thought I took the chance to fall for him, and I fell hard. The emotions I felt for this man became more apparent and real than ever. Since that day, I have been swept off my feet. As Shaddy showed me, and continues to show me what love is truly all about.

Growing into adulthood with one another, it is inevitable that there will be many obstacles that life will throw our way. However, having already conquered all types of obstacles together, we know that we are able to take anything on together. There couldn’t be a greater blessing.  Whenever we came across a tough situation in the past , we always asked each other “How could we get through this?” – The answer always became clear to us, we worked through it together, and we learned that as long as we have one another, that is truly the only thing that really matters.

Every couple and each engagement is unique in its own way. Ours took me by surprise, not to mention it took me on a roller coaster of emotions; from tears of fear and shock to tears of joy and happiness.

On September 31st 2012, Shaddy and I went for diner; it was nothing out of the ordinary. Later that evening, we went for a drive down a country road; it was raining and dark outside. I had realized that during dinner Shaddy was being quiet and so tense, and now the drive wasn’t any different. I could not understand what the big deal was since I was under the impression we were wasting time before going to see an old friend. As we were driving down the long road, there was a deer that was previously hit, laying on the side of the road. The deer was distant,  and Shady could not swerve in time so he hit the deer. The shock caused me to react in tears, I was shaking. I turned to Shaddy and out of frustration, and shock, I began doubting and questioning him. “Are you serious Shaddy? What is on your mind tonight? What are you not telling me?” I was shaking and still in tears as he calmed me down, saying he did not see the deer, and nothing was on his mind.

After dealing with the hit of the deer, checking for damage, and making necessary adjustments and arrangements, we continued on our drive. Shaddy said we had a little more time, he then drove us to our old high school and wanted to get out of the car and take a walk. I did not want to go,  as it was raining. However,  Shaddy insisted and was prepared with an umbrella. We then got out of the car, hand in hand, he lead me to where we first had laid eyes on each other so many years ago. We were facing the back door of our high school.  As we reached the back door, there was a path prepared with candles and a beautiful arrangement of roses. As he went down on one knee, I knew that at that moment he was going to ask the question I’ve imagined him to ask for years. As he began sharing utmost intimate and sincere words that came straight from the heart, I couldn’t help the tears of joy and happiness. He asked me; “Sarah, will you marry me?”  My reply to the man of my dreams was “Of course I will marry you” and we both were locked in each other’s arms, embracing one another and holding on tight in the rain.

Today, and as each day passes, I feel so blessed and honoured to be marrying this man. The excitement I feel is beyond words. To finally unite in marriage, and to soon be the best wife that he deserves, brings warmth to my heart. Words cannot describe the happiness I feel, knowing that I will soon be the daughter in-law and sister in-law to such a welcoming family and great people. And the wife to such an amazing, sweet, thoughtful and caring man. I am thankful to soon have him be a part of my family, and for us to live our happily ever after.

HERE’S Isaiah’s entry, a great story that involves a bad blind date and a fender bender that led to love at first sight.

On July 8th 2011, I was on my way home from a blind date at wedding reception that didn’t go so well.  This was my first date in 5 years and I was really disappointed with the outcome of the night.  I prayed to god with all my heart to keep me motivated and help me find the women of my dreams.  Fifteen minutes later, while drive home, I almost ran a red light.  As I put the car in reverse so I can place the car behind the pedestrian walkway I hit the car behind me who would later be my finance. As I get out of the car and we assessed that there was no damage to both vehicles.  I hurriedly went back to my car hoping that she wouldn’t change her mind and want to exchange insurance information with a potential future insurance claim on my hands.

As we both drove away.  A police officer who was parked behind her car saw the accident and turned on his sirens for us to pull over to the curb.  As I anxiously parked my car, the police office asked us to exchange insurance information for our records.  As we exchanged insurance information, I found out that Nisreen was on her way home from a long day as a general surgery medical  resident at the local hospital.  I also found out that she is from the same country I was born in and I suddenly couldn’t help but notice that god may have answered my prayers. She was the most beautiful  women I have ever seen.   Truly, an angel from heaven.

As we learned more about each other and common interests, I knew that that I had met the women of my dreams.   I wanted to make the proposal as special and memorable as I could.  I decided to propose on July 8th 2013.  Two years to the day that I met her.  I saved the police officers citation and decided to call her to see if she would be willing to help me with my plan.  I told Nisreen that we would be going to a retirement party for my boss. However, the plan was to propose to her on the same day I met her at the same exact spot and I would have the same police officer who stopped pull us over again for a broken trail light.  With a lot of preparing, I hired a professional photographer to capture the special moment and our families waiting nearby to congratulate us afterwards.   The proposal couldn’t have gone any better.  She was shocked and surprised at the same time.  She was speechless.  As she got out of the car and I held her hands.  It started to rain and the clouds gave way to sunshine five minutes later after the proposal.   This was truly the second best day of my life and it could not have gone any better..  To my lovely Nisreen..  The love of my life <3

BunchesDirect is currently running a contest for the best engagement story we can find. The winner will receive a $1000 Shopping Spree for Wedding Flowers from BunchesDirect!

We’ll be unveiling the entries over the next little while as we receive them. Here’s Amanda s.’ entry, of a hot summer day and a cool proposal on the beach.

My fiancé proposed to me on a beautiful, sunny day during a walk along the Tacoma waterfront.  Eric and I had met online only 6 months before the proposal, but he already knew exactly what I would want.  On June 4, 2013, he picked me up at the Light Rail station after work.  We stopped at his house to take care of his dog and then we headed to the waterfront.  It was the hottest day of the year to that point.  I had on a spaghetti strapped dress, and was still warm.  So, I couldn’t understand why he insisted on bringing his coat.  I must have asked him 10 times if he really wanted to carry it—it was so hot!  He insisted that it was just easier to take it and we were on our way.  We walked, hand in hand, on the path that winds its way along the waterfront.  We stopped to watch someone parasailing and to admire the view of the mountains in the distance.  We stopped for a few moments on various benches, but then, we would walk again, only to stop at the next empty bench.  I didn’t understand why we kept stopping, but he had a plan!

He knew that I did not want a public proposal.  So, on that busy afternoon, he waited until we found a secluded bench where we were not going to be noticed, surrounded, or cheered for.  We found our secluded bench and sat and talked and stared at the water.  Then, he took a deep breath and reached into his pocket.  He had written his proposal out because he didn’t want to forget anything.  His hand was shaking as he read the most beautiful proposal to me.  I always thought I would cry when a man got down on one knee and asked me “the question”, but I was so overjoyed and so happy, but I just smiled.  He knelt down and pulled a ring box from his coat pocket.  “Amanda Shutters, will you marry me?” he asked, hands still shaking.  I think I said “Of course!”  Though, I’m not really sure what I said.  I was too excited to think and quickly put the ring on my left hand.  I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.  He wanted me to be able to share the news with my friends and family, who all lived on the east coast, so he purposely proposed in the early afternoon.  We sat on the bench a while, hand in hand, while I stared at the diamond on my finger.  “Mrs. Lattin,”  I said.  I couldn’t wait.

Eventually, I was able to call my parents, best friend, brother and grandparents.  I sent a few picture messages of the ring to others letting them figure it out.  We stayed on the bench, not wanting the moment to end, until we both could feel our skin burning in the hot sun.  We ended our walk with a “selfy” picture of the two of us beaming on “our” bench.

BunchesDirect is currently running a contest for the best engagement story we can find. The winner will receive a $1000 Shopping Spree for Wedding Flowers from BunchesDirect!

We’ll be unveiling the entries over the next little while as we receive them. Here’s Marie’s Entry — a story with a bunchesdirect connection to it!

Pierre-Marc and I have been together for almost ten years when he did propose, at the end of summer of 2012.  The story that led to that wonderful and unforgettable moment began at my mom’s wedding, on May 19, 2012.

A wonderful wedding, by the way, as my mom did buy the flowers from you guys.  All white and red roses.  They were stunning.  When the time came for my mom to throw the bouquet, it fell right in front on me, and I caught it!  The celebrant, which happened to be the mother of my stepfather, came to see Pierre-Marc and said:  “Well my boy, congratulations, you’re next!”  It was kind of funny, strange and touching at the same time.

Then, Pierre-Marc thought it out. A few months later,  he invited me for a nice dinner and  made his grand proposal.  No wonder I said yes!  We love each other so much. We were supposed to get married this summer, but  we just had a beautiful baby boy, and we decided to tie the knot on June, 2014.
