This Thanksgiving, I have a lot to be thankful for! 13 years ago, my dad was told he would only live for 6 months. I was 7 years old and couldn’t fully comprehend what life would be like without my dad. I was a prime example of a ‘Daddy’s girl.’ We would do all the “guy stuff” and would spend many hours hunting and fishing. It’s now 2013, and I still have my amazing dad! He has a rare blood disease called Amyloidosis. Amyloidosis is when the Amyloid protein builds up in different organs. With my dad, it is specifically building up in his heart. He goes through chemo two times a week, and even though it isn’t supposed to help, it does!
I got married on August 18, 2012, and my Dad was ‘life flighted’ from our hometown of Indiana, PA to Pittsburgh, PA on August 16. I was absolutely devastated! My Dad has been here for this long and still wasn’t going to be able to walk me down the aisle. My Dad made arrangements to get signed out on the 17th to go to the rehearsal and be at the wedding the following day. Not only did I marry the greatest guy ever, I had THE greatest man walk me down the aisle.
Every Thanksgiving, I make sure to counting my blessings, starting with my dad. This Thanksgiving, I’m especially thankful to have my dad around for another holiday!
