Need inspiration for your wedding or event flowers? If you are a DIY type and would love to tackle your flowers personally, there are a myriad of easy options for you. One of the hottest trends is to “mix and match” your vases and blooms, and this is perfect for the DIY bride or event planner!

While many brides and event planners adore uniformity, there is no hard and fast rule that says you need one centerpiece in the middle of your table, and that all your vases and flower types should be the same. The “mix and match” trend incorporates a selection of your favorite blooms. Use the same vases or mix those up too. Make sure they still “match” either by color choice, vase choice, or shape and the array will work.

This approach is extremely flexible for your budget as well, letting you pick as many or as few blooms as you would like. If you aren’t sure which blooms will go together, let your experienced floral consultant guide you. Buying in bulk will save you lots of money also!

Above: These vases may be a bit different in shape but they are visually cohesive due to their glass construction. This beautiful mix of spring flowers such a pink peonies, iris, and waxflower or stock coordinates into a lovely display for dining or to accent a buffet or seating card table. Pink and purples work well together, so feel free to select your faves as a mix of these will “match” and still be pleasing to the eye.

This floral display uses an assortment of different vases. You can create this look by covering mason jars or plain vases with burlap, twine or lace from the craft store. This mix of blooms includes roses, dahlias, and limonium. The “mix and match” trend works especially well for a boho or shabby chic event! It can help create a fresh-from-the-garden look that also gives a more casual or vintage vibe.

Ranunculus mixes well with tulips and waxflower in pastel colors for this eclectic mix at an outdoor event. Mixing the heights of the containers creates visual interest.

The trend is still adaptable to more formal events! Another way to incorporate this look is to mix up the types of flowers, but keep the color consistent, Here, a mix of white blooms works beautifully to create a unique and interesting display at the head table. Consider lilies, stephanotis, roses, and alstroemeria for an interesting blend of blooms.

Another excellent mix of white flowers: bells of ireland, hydrangea and calla lilies (as shown left). The color consistency supports the slightly more formal setting, while the mix of blooms keeps things from being too stuffy or traditional.

Create a more exotic vibe by using orange as the unifying color. Mix it up by choosing a variety of vases and containers, in different heights. Try flowers like asiatic lilies, gerbera daisies, or protea for some vivid visual punch.

Don’t restrict the “mixing and matching” to just the flowers and vases! Incorporate some of your other favorite accessories to create very unique and memorable floral displays for your tables. Even with this mix of items, the match comes fro the use of mercury glass and silver along with the peach and cream flowers.

Pick an assortment of your favorite blooms and containers and enjoy the possibilities! Your friendly floral consultant can advise you how much of each bloom you will need to create your visual masterpiece. Best of all, your event flowers will be unlike anyone else’s!

There are some people—wrong as they may be—who think the beautiful carnation is not a first choice, first class flower. While it’s true that carnations are one of the most budget-friendly choices, it’s also true that they are truly one of the most lovely and versatile event flowers you can select. The low price is just a bonus!

Carnations have an amazing texture, like elegant ruffles, and many varieties come with a soft, spicy fragrance. They come in a truly amazing multitude of colors (even green) and shades which makes working with them an additional pleasure.

Monochrome Carnations

Use all one color of carnations and let their texture do the talking. One color will create a big pop of visual impact for your tables or venue. Coordinate with your theme colors or choose a complimentary shade to accent them. Or, create an ombre effect by setting up a mass of carnations that run from dark to light shades of a single color.

Even a simple grouping of white carnations looks amazing in a modern glass cube vase.

Pomanders (Kissing Balls)

Carnations may look delicate, but are one of the heartiest flowers you can choose. They don’t wilt easily in a hot venue and aren’t too fussy about humidity or lots of water. Pomanders can be made with multi-colored carnations and set in different shaped vases, set on tables, hung from trees, suspended from shepherd’s hooks…the possibilities are endless. Set them down the middle of the table to use as your centerpiece!

Floral Backdrops

Because carnations are sturdy, with thicker stalks, they are also a perfect choice for creating hanging “flower curtains” or other floral backdrops. This is a great project for the DIY planner who has lots of helpful friends! Fishing wire, needles and bulk carnations are all you really need. Click to read more about Floral Backdrops.

August was a busy month for celebrity weddings! It’s always fun to take a look at what the rich and famous do with their nuptials, (especially with their flowers!) and we can glean a little inspiration along the way. Here’s how a famous comedic actor, a Brazilian supermodel, and a singer/ producer celebrated their special wedding days– enjoy!

Kevin Hart and Eniko Parrish

Photo from hellomagazine.com

The comedian tied the knot on sunny August 13 in Santa Barbara, California, after dating Parrish for almost seven years. The couple tied the knot in front of 200 guests. Several of their wedding photos were taken in gazebo on the grounds, framed by greenery and white blooms. Hart’s children certainly helped make the day special and his eight-year-old son Hendrix was best man. We also loved the floral crown that Hart’s daughter Heaven wore in her hair.

Eniko wore two stunning Vera Wang gowns at her event. She was married in a gorgeous mermaid style gown with lace appliques and a flared tulle skirt. She later changed into a second dress for the reception, which Wang herself describes as having “sumptuous hand placed French Chantilly lace appliqué artfully contoured along the whole gown.” One description that comes to mind: “super sexy!”

The carnival was in town for this superstar wedding: guests at the after party were treated to rides on a ferris wheel and a merry-go-round as well as games and treats. (Ludacris seemed pretty happy with his win of a stuffed animal.) All the attendees, including the groom, seemed to enjoy the big party atmosphere.

For beautiful white centerpieces, try Wild at Heart pre-made arrangements, and add stunning bulk cream roses for extra wow factor at amazing prices.

 Isabeli Fontana and Diego Ferrero

A sexy and sheer wedding dress/ swimsuit coverup is just the thing when you are a super sexy Brazilian supermodel and former Victoria’s Secret angel. Isabeli Fontana proved it when she wed her boyfriend of three years, Diego Ferrero, on a beach at the Soneva Fushi resort, Maldives. Their invitations included a message bottle and seashells as a sweet nod to the beach venue, and the cake topper was made in their images.

RayJ and Princess Love

Photo from Pharris Photography

It was a fairytale wedding for RayJ and Princess in their sometimes tumultuous relationship that many of us have enjoyed on VH1′s Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood.

The singer, songwriter and music producer, 35, married his real life Princess at the Vibiana in Los Angeles on August 12. His father officiated at their ceremony. Princess wore a flowing Lazaro gown. At the reception the couple enjoyed a lavish cake boasting seven tiers. RayJ’s famous sister Brandy sang a gorgeous rendition of At Last for their first dance in a truly romantic and personal element.

Even the usually stoic RayJ got emotional at the event., saying to PEOPLE magazine, “Watching Princess walking down the aisle … when I heard the music and I saw her come down, I lost it. I was like, I’m just gonna let it go and enjoy the love and positive emotion. I got real happy as the tears dropped.”

“Flowers are the music of the ground. From earth’s lips spoken without a sound.” –Edwin Curran

Photo from brides.com

Weddings—whether simple or grand, all have one thing common about them: flowers. No matter how simple the affair is, it would always be graced with flowers—whether that may be the sprawling festoons of florets arranged all over the chapel or the simple posy the bride has in her clasped hands.

Photo from brides.com

Flowers do aesthetic wonders to any plays they decorate. In weddings, they transform what would be a simple wedding venue into an idyllic, lush and whimsical avenue for matrimony that is both ideal and appropriate for two lovers to exchange their vows. For this reason, flowers play an integral role in just about any wedding.  But there is no solitary flower arrangement that is as singularly important as the wedding bouquet itself. And although the wedding gown takes the center stage in any wedding affair, the wedding bouquet should be just as arresting as the gown itself. The wedding bouquet, though seemingly nondescript, complements the bride’s ensemble—making this a crucial accessory to the bridal gown. It should be striking enough to attract, but not too overly flashy that it would cast the wedding gown into a shade.

So, how do you find the perfect wedding floral bouquet?

1.)    CHOOSE THE WEDDING DRESS FIRST

This should go without saying, but it is incredibly important that you pick out your wedding dress or gown prior to choosing a bridal bouquet. Your bridal bouquet should accent the bridal gown which necessitates the selection of a gown beforehand.

The style, color, and cut of your dress are all crucial factors in deciding what design and floral components your wedding bouquet should have. So, on your initial meeting with your florist, bring a photograph or a sketch of your gown so that the both of you can decide on a floral design that would complement it.

2.)    CONSIDER THE SHAPE AND SIZE OF THE BOUQUET

As pointed out above, the wedding bouquet is meant to accentuate the wedding dress but never to overwhelm it to the point of obscuring it.

If your gown has intricate details, consider a smaller bouquet to draw attention to those features instead of detracting it with your bouquet. Give your overall ensemble a more dramatic flair by choosing a bridal bouquet that complements and brings out the details of your wedding gown.

3.)    COLOR COORDINATION

Pretty in Peach bouquet BunchesDirect

Color coordination is crucial to any flower arrangements, but this applies especially to a wedding bouquet. It can be quite hard to find a match for creams and whites when your wedding has a theme or when you have a motif in mind, so be sure to relay all of this (including the color and swath of the material) to your florist. This would make it much easier for them to design the color scheme of your bouquet in such a way that it would not clash with your outfit.

4.)    PERSONALIZE YOUR BOUQUET

Photo from boards.weddingbee.com

Bear in mind that the bridal bouquet is not just a simple costume accessory. It is a pivotal point of the bride’s overall ensemble and as a bride, you will be expected to carry it all throughout the entire wedding day. This is why your wedding bouquet should be unique. Special in a sense that it is personal. It should reflect your style and taste. Heirlooms or flowers that you favor can be incorporated into the bouquet with the assistance of your florist. This is a wonderful way not only to make it personalized, but an avenue of a departed loved one to be honored and remembered.
