Expert Wedding Planning: Four Tips and Tricks

A talented planner is a gift you give yourself…and then wonder how you ever thought you could manage without one.”-Author Unknown

Planning a wedding can be difficult. With so many details to take into consideration, it’s easy to see why so many brides-to-be feel overwhelmed with the process. After all, you’re planning the biggest party of your life and you want it to be perfect.

While there is no guarantee that your wedding will run as smoothly as you want it to, there are some tips and tricks you can employ to ensure that everything goes according to plan. From choosing the right catering packages to ensuring you select only the best wedding vendors, here are a few tips to help get you started:

1.) Don’t rush

When you first get engaged, you might be excited to start planning right away. However, you should take a minute to talk to your fiancé about what you both envision for the big day. Relax, breathe and take your time. Yes, it is an exciting moment in your life but it is actually best to bask in your newly engaged bliss, check out what your options are and then weigh them. Brainstorm, think things through and consider all the logistics of planning an event as big as a wedding.

2.) Look at the big picture

Before you start planning the seating chart and appetizer menu, think of the more general logistics of your wedding. Do you want it outdoors or indoors? Where do you want the wedding venue to be? What kind of theme do you have in mind? When you have all these, you can then work inward towards the specifics.

3.) Know your budget

Every wedding needs a budget. This needs to be very clear as expenses can start to get out of control very quickly. In order stay realistic about your budget, make a list, outlining your wants and needs from highest to lowest priority. This will help you visualize what needs to be budgeted for, and what can go if necessary. Remember, the needs are things that should absolutely be present in your wedding while the wants are things you can do without.

4.) Research

Now that you have a list of priorities and a budget in mind, it’s time to start doing some research on potential vendors. Ask former brides, check reviews and schedule meetings to make sure each service is the right fit for you. Are flowers high on your priority list? Look for a florist that not only has a wide selection, but is cost effective. Look for one that purchases their flowers right from the farm like Bunches Direct. This way the middleman is eliminated and you save money. Research will also help you determine back-up plans for each scenario such as bad weather or your D.J. getting sick. Always have a plan B!

We know that these steps are certainly not the most exciting part about planning a wedding, but they are certainly the most important. The more preparation you do before booking a venue or vendor, will help the process be more enjoyable for you and everyone involved.

Bonus tip: Have fun! Don’t let all the stress of organizing logistics stand between you and your fiancé’s enjoyment of  this special time in your lives. Slow down, take it all in and remember that this day is a celebration of how much you truly love each other!
