8. Same rule applies for your bridesmaid bouquets! There is no hard and fast “rule” that says they all have to match. You can express your own creativity by mixing flower colors to create a more creative palette.

BunchesDirect is always delighted when we receive some lovely photos and feedback from one of our many happy brides. We were so pleased when Ashley contacted us with thanks for her beautiful wedding flowers! Ashley is a savvy D-I-Y bride who used fresh bulk flowers from BunchesDirect to make her own bouquets and centerpieces for her amazing June wedding. Read on to get all the details!

Ashley and Johnny met on an online dating site, and hit it off instantly. Their relationship blossomed and over the next six years of dating they included not only Ashley’s two daughters and Johnny’s son from previous relationships, but welcomed a new son and daughter of their own. Johnny pulled off a romantic surprise proposal on Christmas Eve of 2013. During a gift exchange, Ashley was handed a gift wrapped in multiple layers which led to an empty ring box. Johnny produced another box, with the ring. He popped the big question, and a very surprised Ashley said yes. The kids were part of the proposal and their excited screaming and jumping added to the excitement of this very special memory.

The wedding took place on June 12, 2015, at the beautiful Belvoir Winery in Liberty, Missouri. Ashley had always wanted to have an outdoor wedding and the gazebo at the Belvoir estate clinched it for her. You can see how gorgeous the staircase was as Ashley made her grand entrance. Wedding photos were taken by Jim Powers Powersshots Wedding and Portrait Photography, from Overland Park, Kansas.

The wedding included 50 guests and three attendants on each side. Fifty guests were in attendance. Both Ashley and Johnny have large families, but Johnny’s is located over some distance; luckily two of his brothers were able to arrive and share the day.

The wedding colors were dark purple and white, as purple is Johnny’s favorite color. The white blooms were a beautiful contrast with the purple bridesmaid dresses. The boutonnieres were Dragon Ball Z figurines since Johnny and his brothers loved this cartoon.

Ashley’s sister Amanda was maid of honor, with her daughters Cheyenne and Lily as bridesmaids. Johnny’s brother Joey was best man, with his brother Adam and friend William as groomsmen. Their flower girl was their daughter Abigail, while their son Colton did duty as ring bearer. In a funny anecdote, Ashley relays that Colton had to use the rest room right before the ceremony began, and ended up going behind a tree; Ashley’s brother snapped a cute photo to immortalize the moment!

The cute wedding “cake” was fashioned from Rice Krispie treats and garnished with a sheer purple ribbon. What a fantastic idea! For the guest “book,” the couple opted to have guests sign wine corks (appropriate to the venue) which they then arranged in a lovely shadow box to commemorate the special day. Ashley’s brother-in-law Scott married them and got ordained just for the event, as it meant a lot to Ashley to have someone special who knew them well to help marry them—now that is dedication!

Ashely look gorgeous in her beautiful wedding gown with its lovely high bodice and scooped back. She had actually purchased another dress six months earlier though she hoped to make some improvements to it. One week before the wedding Ashley realized the dress wasn’t really going to give her the thrill she hoped for. Johnny encouraged a worried Ashley to go find the perfect gown (way to go, Johnny). Luckily she found the dress and was able to have it altered, with the finishing touches done just three days before the big event.

The wedding flowers were gorgeous! Ashley decided to make her own bouquets and centerpieces, using beautiful bulk flowers from BunchesDirect. She selected roses and carnations as these are affordable, while looking expensive (excellent choice, Ashley!). Ashley surfed on Pinterest and YouTube for some video tips (visit our BunchesDirect channel for great how-to-videos!) and relays that making the bouquets got easier with each one.

The flowers arrived on June 10 and after caring for the flowers, the crew got to work. Ashley, her sister and her mom made 12 centerpieces 4 bouquets and 1 toss bouquet (Ashley’s daughter made her own). They used floral tape, ribbons and pins to hold the blooms in place. Great job!

For the centerpieces, Ashley sourced water beads from Etsy, and submersible LED lights from Micheal’s. The vases she also found from Michael’s on clearance (amazing luck!) and the BunchesDirect flowers were cut to fit the height of the vase. Ashley and her team then arranged the roses and carnations in different colors to create the final gorgeous look. Simple, affordable, and stunning!

Ashley relays that having her kids being part of their wedding day made the event extra special, as did the speeches made by her sister and Johnny’s brother Joey, and having two of his brothers attend. Their goal was to have a fun and easygoing wedding that included children, so they even had a kids’ room with movies, coloring pages and snacks (love this idea). For them, their day was perfect. The BunchesDirect team was happy to lend a hand— we wish them all the best!

A look back at some memorable (and perhaps less well known) celebrity weddings that featured—you guessed it—insanely gorgeous wedding flowers! We may not have the celebrity budget but we can create our own versions of these awesome celebrity looks. It’s also a great cost saving idea to buy flowers in bulk from a reputable online supplier and DIY. Many of these floral “looks” can be recreated on a smaller scale with some creative vision and a bit of effort that will be well worth it after all the compliments you receive!

Here is a look back at some of the most memorable celebrity “flower moments”…which was your favorite?

Amal Alamuddin & George Clooney: Floral Arch

Amal and George were married in Venice and can we say “wow’ to all the spectacular wedding flowers that were featured in this over-the-top event. They adorned the river boats with fresh flowers, lined rooms with flowers, created stunning tall arrangements to frame the ceremony, and had photos taken under a magnificent floral archway.

Click for tips on how to make a smaller version of your own floral arch.

Kim Kardashian & Kanye West: The Floral Wall

Well this one was truly jaw-dropping: for their Florence nuptials Kimye ordered up a massive wall of flowers to surround them during their vows. The wall was reputed to be 25 feet high, and loaded up from top to bottom with an amazing array of blooms including hydrangea, roses, spray roses, lisianthus and many more, all in shades of white. For more info on how to create your own DIY floral walls, check out our blog on Floral Backdrops.

Ivanka Trump: Centerpieces by Preston Bailey

Amazing! These centerpieces and other tabletop florals were designed by the venerable Preston Bailey and his team, and they were over-the-top gorgeous! The florals were the star of this Trump wedding which took place at (where else) Trump National Golf Course in Bedminster, New Jersey. If you love this wedding look, keep your own flowers to all cream or white, and opt to include blooms such as roses, hydrangea, freesia, stephanotis, lilies, and lisianthus, to name a few key ingredients. For more Preston Bailey inspiration, check out his wonderful book called Preston Bailey: Flowers. His anecdotal stories from weddings and events (including those for A-listers like Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Hudson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and others) are also sure to amaze. And speaking of Catherine Zeta-Jones…

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas: Floral Wedding Cake

In case you didn’t see it, this couple’s 1998 wedding at the Plaza Hotel in New York featured a spectacular multi-tiered cake covered with fresh flowers. Flowers on a cake don’t have to bust your budget. You can bake or buy a reasonably priced wedding cake and adorn it with beautiful flowers you can buy in bulk. BunchesDirect also has some ready-to-use floral cake toppers that you can buy and add to your own cake, for an even easier solution. After some rocky times and separations, apparently the couple is stronger than ever (we’ll see).

Browsing through celebrity photos can give you plenty of inspiration as a starting point for planning your own special event. Be sure to speak to a floral professional for even more assistance, or get a quote online based on your ideas.

If you are planning a wedding or a special event, you are probably looking for ways to create a unique and memorable guest experience. One way to show your guests how special they are is to send them home with a more unique and beautiful guest favor. Using fresh flowers to create something out of the ordinary is a wonderful way to show how much you care, and to provide that added boost of “something special” to your table decor.

Check out these wonderful ways to create your own DIY floral guest favors.

Floral Place Cards: Use small bundles of fresh flowers, tied with some pretty ribbon, as place tags for each guest. After the ceremony, guests can take home their mini-bouquet for a lovely and aromatic favor. Some flowers can be dried or preserved to create a lasting memory of your special day.

Personal Flower Market: Set up a beautiful “flower market” as a lovely accent at your wedding. Invite guests to take home a few flowers to create their own bouquet as a memento of your special day!. Everyone wants to sneak home the centerpiece but this way you are letting them make their own bouquet keepsake. You could have pretty ribbons or custom bags available for the guests to secure and take home their lovely blooms. This is an easy and visually stunning addition to your wedding. It also doesn’t have to break the bank if you purchase an array of bulk flowers from a low-priced online vendor such as BunchesDirect.

Take home Centerpieces:  Everyone wants to sneak home the centerpiece, so why not let them create their own miniature version? Set pretty bags by the guests’ places. You can create lovely customized bags that are personalized with your wedding information, or buy beautiful pre-made options.(Check out Esty for some great ideas). With your encouragement, guests can then slip out some of the centerpiece flowers to take home for their own enjoyment.

Bridal Shower Teacups: Buy mini teapots, cups or bowls from a dollar store or other craft store and arrange mini bouquets in each, for bridal shower guests to take home with them. This bouquet includes ranunculus and plum blossoms but the choice is endless! Click for a great DIY tutorial on how to make the bouquets. Your guests can keep the teacup as a sweet memento of the event!

Floral Wrapping: Even if you are passing out traditional boxed guest favors, adding a sprig or two of fresh flowers with pretty ribbon will give your gifts a special elegant touch.

Well, the Laguna Beach weddings have continued! Last month Lauren Conrad got married in a romantic mountainside vineyard in Santa Ynes, California. Now her fellow Laguna Beach alum Alex Murrell has followed her own path down the wedding aisle and was married last Saturday, October 25, at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu.

Alex, 27, married Kyle Mark Johnson in a beautiful rustic outdoor ceremony. The ceremony was conducted under a trellis draped with an elegant fabric backdrop edged with floral garlands and clusters of flowers, framed by amazing curly willow branches. Alex and Kyle were engaged in July 2013 during a trip to Thailand.

Alex has revealed some sweet insider details to their love story: apparently she first met Kyle when he stayed briefly with her family.

She was 12 and he was 19.  She developed a crush on him and told her family how much she wanted to marry him. Apparently Kyle thought this was funny and told her perhaps they would date when she was older. He left that summer and she didn’t see or hear from him for 10 years.

When she was 22, she and a friend were having dinner in Laguna when Alex came across Kyle’s Facebook page. On impulse, she posted a message, and he replied (see conversation above)…the rest is history!

They were an official couple within a week after reuniting. Some things are meant to be, I guess.

For their wedding, Alex went sexy in a form fitting Berta Bridal gown that featured a plunging neckline and lace bodice, as well as a low back. Her hair was worn in loose waves, with a simple veil attached at the crown. Kyle wore a classic black tux and looked very much the happy groom.

Her BFF’s and former Laguna co-stars Alex Hooser and Taylor Cole were both bridesmaids in the wedding, looking amazing in floor-length maroon gowns. All the guests and attendants enjoyed the photo booth, as show in some of the Instagram postings.

The flowers suited the rustic outdoor venue, and were beautifully accented by romantic candles, curly willow branches, and other earthy wooden details.

If you love Alex’s wedding decorations, you can achieve a similar look (at a fraction of the cost) by buying bulk wedding flowers and creating your own tablescapes and garlands based on her decor ideas. Choose dahlias, hydrangea, seeded eucalyptus, baby’s breath, limonium, spray roses, garden roses, rose petals, lisianthus, chrysanthemums and assorted greenery. All the following bulk flowers can be found at Bunches Direct and will help you pull together a similar look, or let us do it for you, at a fraction of the cost of traditional florists. As always, our talented floral consultants are available to help you…at NO charge!

Feel free to send questions to [email protected] In the meantime, enjoy your own love story!
