If you are planning a wedding or a special event, you are probably looking for ways to create a unique and memorable guest experience. One way to show your guests how special they are is to send them home with a more unique and beautiful guest favor. Using fresh flowers to create something out of the ordinary is a wonderful way to show how much you care, and to provide that added boost of “something special” to your table decor.

Check out these wonderful ways to create your own DIY floral guest favors.

Floral Place Cards: Use small bundles of fresh flowers, tied with some pretty ribbon, as place tags for each guest. After the ceremony, guests can take home their mini-bouquet for a lovely and aromatic favor. Some flowers can be dried or preserved to create a lasting memory of your special day.

Personal Flower Market: Set up a beautiful “flower market” as a lovely accent at your wedding. Invite guests to take home a few flowers to create their own bouquet as a memento of your special day!. Everyone wants to sneak home the centerpiece but this way you are letting them make their own bouquet keepsake. You could have pretty ribbons or custom bags available for the guests to secure and take home their lovely blooms. This is an easy and visually stunning addition to your wedding. It also doesn’t have to break the bank if you purchase an array of bulk flowers from a low-priced online vendor such as BunchesDirect.

Take home Centerpieces:  Everyone wants to sneak home the centerpiece, so why not let them create their own miniature version? Set pretty bags by the guests’ places. You can create lovely customized bags that are personalized with your wedding information, or buy beautiful pre-made options.(Check out Esty for some great ideas). With your encouragement, guests can then slip out some of the centerpiece flowers to take home for their own enjoyment.

Bridal Shower Teacups: Buy mini teapots, cups or bowls from a dollar store or other craft store and arrange mini bouquets in each, for bridal shower guests to take home with them. This bouquet includes ranunculus and plum blossoms but the choice is endless! Click for a great DIY tutorial on how to make the bouquets. Your guests can keep the teacup as a sweet memento of the event!

Floral Wrapping: Even if you are passing out traditional boxed guest favors, adding a sprig or two of fresh flowers with pretty ribbon will give your gifts a special elegant touch.

Brides, consider going for gold this year! A strong trend emerging in wedding color palettes for 2015 is to add in the gold, and glitz it up. Gold is definitely back, with more brides incorporating touches of this regal gleam to their wedding decor. Gold accents can inject warmth and sparkle, creating a feeling of luxury and glamor that can take ordinary wedding decorating a step above.

You can further embellish this look by adding even more sparkle, such as mirrors, chandeliers, glass, candlelight, and pearls. This look would pair well with more opulent meal choices including champagne. a formal sit down supper, and lavish desserts.

Here are the top 3 “on trend” color schemes that include gold, with wedding flowers to coordinate with each trend.

Gold, Champagne, Ivory: For a sophisticated wedding palette, pair touches of gold with traditionally ‘go-to” neutrals in shades of white and cream. For added contrast, you could also include touches of black, or stay relatively soft and neutral.

BunchesDirect bouquet suggestions: Classic Cream Rose, Pretty in White, Dramatic White, or Hold Me Close.

Gold, Blush, Pink: Think Cinderella, fairytale romance, and a soft, sophisticated palette with plenty of feminine touches.

If you love the idea of blush and gold for your wedding, check out the beautiful wedding of Matt and Amanda in Pelican Hill, California that made excellent use of this timeless, romantic palette.

BunchesDirect bouquet suggestions: Pretty WomanOnly Yours, or Beautifully Pink bridal bouquets would be stunning with this color scheme.

Gold & Navy- Adding touches of gold to a navy color palette elevates it with with modern glamor and provides a vibrant contrast between “hot” gold and “cool” midnight blue. Flowers in shades of soft or bright pink, clean white, purple, or dramatic red would work well with this palette.

BunchesDirect bouquet suggestions: Crimson DreamPink World, Classic White Hyrdangea, Classic Lavender Orchid.

Bunches Direct was delighted to have been selected by the hardworking volunteers at Halo House Foundation to assist with their very special Gala Night event in November 2014. The Halo House challenge: find a vendor to provide a large quantity of fresh and beautiful bulk flowers, on time and ready to assemble, that would be used to decorate Bayou City Center in Houston, Texas, on a limited budget. Enter Bunches Direct!

Halo House Foundation is dedicated to making life better for people with leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. The mission at Halo House is to assist people of all ages who are being treated for a blood cancer by providing them with fully furnished housing at a very low cost while they are undergoing active treatment for their cancer at the Texas Medical Center. Thousands of people come the the Center each year to receive life-saving treatments. They come because care is unavailable locally, or their local treatments have failed. Sadly, many of those people cannot stay in Houston to receive treatment because of the significant costs associated with short term housing. Halo House helps address this.

In 2014, the team of dedicated volunteers at Halo House began to organize their annual Gala to raise funds for their very worthy cause. Planning for the Gala began in March with 75 volunteers helping on various tasks.

A team of 15 was assigned to floral decorations, beginning about four months ahead of the Gala. They collected and painted dollar store vases (very creative!), and then to gathered to receive and prepare the flowers the day before and during the day of the event.

The decorating budget was $1000 maximum. According to Jessica Hazen, one of the key volunteers, they were happy with their choice of Bunches Direct for the flowers: “Bunches Direct was very helpful in this arena with the consultation and the recommendations. Amy and I liked the idea of having three small arrangements on each table versus one large one, meaning a single flower [type] per vase was best; this also minimized the need for greenery. Colors were challenging to decide on because we wanted to use HHF colors (royal blue, gold and white) but Mother Nature doesn’t exactly like using that pallet scheme. I sent BunchesBob a picture of the gold vases I was working on and he/she recommended the deep purple carnations and white roses. The quote was very competitive and the customer service representative was very helpful.”

The team of volunteers followed the care directions provided by Bunches Direct, removing the flowers from packaging, cutting the ends of the stems, and hydrating the flowers in a cool location. They they assembled some beautiful centerpieces to grace the tables at the Gala event. Great job, ladies! Visit our blog on Flower Care 101 to learn more about caring for your own bulk flowers.

The Gala featured a silent auction of about 150 items including original works of art, exquisite jewelry, fine dining, sports memorabilia, “staycations,” travel packages, and so much more. Over 500 guests enjoyed cocktails, dinner, dancing and an amazing performance by Cirque Imagination. Sonia Azad from ABC-Channel 13 News, KTRK was the event orchestrator and a volunteer for HH. Andy Serota from Local News 2, KPRC also attended the fun event.

Amy Curtis was the Head Gala Chairperson and her vision was honed in to the emotional experience for attendees. She organized a Step-and-repeat red carpet photographer, the live performances from Cirque Imagination, and a prop-filled photo booth area—all of which were loved by the guests!

One of the highlights of the evening was the performance of an original song by Emily Lipinski, the daughter of one of HH’s previous residents and a cancer survivor. Emily preformed a song she wrote for her mother. Jessica describes the song as “spellbinding,” relaying that “there wasn’t a dry eye in the room while she sang; such raw emotion and feeling was so very touching. Her song made everyone think about why we do the work we do; helping people in their time of need is the core of our humanity.”

Halo House Foundation is thrilled to report that $300,000 was raised through the generous support of the Gala attendees and other donors. The funds are being used to help build the capital campaign for The Halo House building. Jessica explains, “Currently we operate out of an apartment complex close to the Texas Medical Center, renting the apartments for the families to come and call home for their treatment. We are working to finalize details on breaking ground for our very own set of apartment homes!”

Bunches Direct was so pleased to have been part of this amazing event. We look forward to working with Halo House again soon. It was twice as nice: Johnny Depp and Amber Heard said “I do” twice over this month. The 51-year-old Depp married his 28-year-old sweetheart in a small civil ceremony in LA on February 3. The famous pair then jetted off to Depp’s private island Little Hall’s Pond Cay in the Bahamas, to enjoy a second ceremony with family and friends on February 7. They chose their wedding date based on what fit best into their very hectic work schedules (oh, the trials of being a movie star).

The pair have been engaged since December 2013 after meeting on the set of The Rum Diary. Johnny seemed to be smitten quickly and is still quick to praise his bride (as any smart and loyal man should), saying in a recent interview, “She’s a wonderful girl. She’s sharp as a tack. A Southern belle and sweet as can be and very good for me.”

Their wedding photos have started to surface, and apparently we have them due largely to efforts of helicopter forays over the island.(Sorry Johnny and Amber for all the noise, but we love the pics.) There were approximately two dozen guests at the very private, intimate beach wedding on the exclusive island retreat. The pair married on the white sand under a beautiful canopy edged with white flowers and greenery, next to blue sea and waving palm trees.

Amber wore a long-sleeved, backless white gown with a billowing veil. The bridesmaids wore pale pink dresses, while Johnny’s son Jack stood as his best man. Johnny wore a white tuxedo jacket with black pants and white shoes. Johnny’s daughter Lily was also in attendance.

The very lucky guests enjoyed not only a beautiful wedding, but a fun-filled holiday on this private Bahamian paradise. Guests reportedly got to lounge on the beach and go snorkeling on the colorful reefs, as well as enjoy delicious meals cooked by private chefs. (Now, why didn’t I RSVP right away?)

Johnny and Amber were honeymooning in another sunny clime: Queensland, Australia, although the latest reports are now saying that Amber may have to postpone more honeymoon time due to her work schedule. Apparently Amber is sweating it out in the dance studios as part of preparation for her role in The Danish Girl alongside Benedict Cumberbatch (who also got married this month!). We wish Johnny and Amber much happiness!
