One of the most popular wedding and event themes of the day is certainly “bohemian,” “shabby” or “vintage” chic.” It’s also one of our faves for flowers — this theme provides ample choice of flower type and color and lets you get especially creative with your choice of container or accents. This theme provides a relaxed and very pretty atmosphere at any wedding or event. We’ve gathered some great tips to help you plan.

Venues

Bohemian chic is suited to a variety of venues but seems especially appropriate for outdoor garden, woodland or rustic settings. The vibe should never be too stuffy or monochromatic and even if not outside, ideally your venue will contain natural element such as greenery, wood, and yes, lots of fresh flowers! The more flowers and greens the better to create a lush and layered “bohemian” look.

Flower Colors

Boho chic themes work in a variety of colors. You could go very bohemian and use rich jewel tones of all kinds, which cultivates a warm and liberated almost “carnival” atmosphere.

Shown left: Rich red calla lilies, orange dahlias, and bright yellow sunflowers combine with the dark blue lanterns and colorful woven table runners to create a visual feast.

Shades of pink and white with green or teal accents also work well with a boho theme, and a garden or woodland setting. Think antique dressers, woven hearts, vintage candlesticks, ropes of pearls,  and a lush, romantic vibe. Daisies, roses, hydrangeas and peonies would work well. Be sure to order plenty of flowers as they are a key component of  any boho event.

DIY Floral Accents

The more relaxed style of boho chic is perfect for the do-it-yourself type! Get creative and make your own centerpieces. This theme does not call for perfect and precise but let’s you express yourself in without fuss or formality.

The photo above shows you a simple DIY suggestion for some fabulous boho table centrepieces. Paint mason jars in various colors to suit your theme. Choose flowers like these beautiful plump dahlias and freesias in rich jewel tones, with sweet accents like the baby’s breath and the craspedia (also called “billy balls”). Mason jars of any kind are perfect for boho themes, and adding special touches like vintage books, antique mirrors, pretty candles, handmade cards. Flower Types: Baby’s breath, as we mentioned, is a wonderful and budget-friendly choice for any boho choc event! It works beautifully in centerpieces and when placed in popular boho containers such as wooden crates, drawers or mason jars.

Carnations and roses are other flower types that work especially well for boho events. They are pretty without being overly formal or fussy, depending on how you dress them.

Accents such as lace, burlap or wood pair especially well with these flowers too.

Audrina Patridge and longtime love Corey Bohan may have taken eight years to actually tie the knot, but it was worth the wait!

Jana Dillon Photography/AKM-GSI

Audrina and BMX bike rider Corey wed in beautiful Hawaii on Saturday, November 5 in an intimate celebration with 100 close friends and family. Their fourth-month old daughter Kirra was also part of the special day!

Audrina shone in a lacy mermaid gown custom made by Pallas Couture. . She wanted their day to be romantic yet with bohemian elements and her gown with its beautiful French chantilly lace and sheer skirt fit the theme perfectly. Corey paired khakis with a crisp white shirt and suspenders which certainly lent a more casual vibe to the event. Audrina used red flowers to adorn her hair. We also adored the beautiful archway decorated with rich red and  pink blooms such as roses, garden roses, and ranunculus woven with seeded eucalyptus and other greens. Guest threw flower petals in the air to celebrate their love. (Hint: you can purchase your own bulk rose petals online, create this romantic vibe, and save!)

The bridal bouquets were gorgeous! Created by Steven Boyle Designs, they worked perfectly with the “bohemian” vibe as well as the glorious Hawaiian wedding location. They were a lush, artful mix with a “freshly gathered” feel that kept them from being too fussy or formal, while still providing plenty of romance with their rich color scheme.

Morgan Childs of Moana Events helped organize the day and the couple’s fun reception afterward. A very happy Audrina relayed, “I was so nervous, but as soon as I saw all of our friends, family and Corey, all I could feel was happiness and love everywhere.”

We’ve all heard of “landscape” as in “all the visible features of an area of countryside or land, often considered in terms of their aesthetic appeal” (yes, we broke out the dictionary for this!). We all recall the powerful impact of standing at a particular site and taking survey of a gorgeous vista. When you are decorating your wedding or event, don’t overlook the importance of one of the key elements of your venue: your tables, and the view that your guests will have of them. The visible appeal you create with this “tablescape,” both from close up, when guests are seated, and from farther back, when guests first enter the room, can provide you with massive visual appeal at your event.

There are a few key elements to remember when creating your own tablescape. Flowers are always a key element so don’t forget to order enough to create your vision. Read on to ensure your success!

Different Heights

Photo from Chic Brown Brides

It’s important to vary the heights of your items. Include some tall elements such as candlesticks, lanterns or big vases, and also some lower elements such as votives, mirrors, small bud vases, or pretty napkin rings.

Varied Patterns and Textures

Choosing textiles, dishes and glassware in varied patterns, colors and textures is another surefire way to add lots of visual impact and interest to any tablescape. Don’t be afraid to mix and match so long as one aspect, such as a key color, is consistent.

Abundance is Awesome

Don’t be shy when setting up a tablescape. Adding in lots of interesting or unexpected elements will result in more visual appeal, and will also stimulate conversation between your guests. This woodland tablescape (above) has a lot of unique elements including fruit, wooden stumps with glass votives, taller candlesticks, wooden place settings, miss, bark and many other interesting touches.

Use the Space around the Table

Photo from Sandra Lee Tablescapes, Foodnetwork.com

Don’t overlook the ceiling above the table, or the space surrounding it. Some key decor elements can be layered in to create even more impact over the most “important” tables such as the head table at a wedding, or the buffet table at the event.

Bulk Flowers and Color

Photo from verandah.com

An easier way to create a tablescape with a ton of impact is to buy an assortment of fresh and beautiful bulk flowers. Simply arrange a generous array of blooms around your place settings for instant visual appeal. Choose vivid colors and high contrast with textiles for even more impact!

Bold and Monochromatic

Photo from Celebrate and Decorate

If you are not as into high contrast, sticking with all one color for your floral accents is another relatively easy way to create a successful tablescape. In the photo above, dishes and linens were kept white, and all flowers yellow. Again, vary the heights of your accent pieces for more visual interest, as was done with these tall and medium-sized pitchers as vases, flowers in the low teacups, plus the loose flowers resting on each place.

Flowers, and more Flowers

Photo from BridaMusings.com

We said it before, but we will say it again– don’t overlook the impact of fresh flowers! Flowers will provide instant color, texture, freshness and beauty to anchor any tablescape. Don’t be afraid to order plenty; if you choose a reputable online vendor you can achieve gorgeous results at a low price.

Everyone wants their wedding or event to be memorable and special. Flowers are a perfect way to add unique touches that will truly take your event to the next level! Most people think of the customary flower centerpieces for the tables, bouquets for the attendants, and perhaps some added vases of flowers for a welcome table or the buffet.

Don’t stop there! We’ve gathered some remarkable ways to use flowers in more unexpected places to give you big impact. Adding a few of these flower details is sure to take your event way above the ordinary.

1. Frame a Doorway. If you are marrying in a church, adding fresh flowers above the church doors is a beautiful touch that will personalize the venue and truly set your day apart from the rest. You could also add flowers above the entrance to the reception hall or other venue. They provide a gorgeous frame to make a lasting first impression!

2. Flowers along the Aisle. Don’t just tie small sprigs to the chairs, adding flowers all along the edges of the wedding aisle will create a very lush and memorable frame for the bride and her wedding party.

3. Garlands for the Tables. We have all seen vases or containers of flowers dotting the tables, but for even more “next level” impact, you can create DIY garlands with bulk flowers to create a big visual impact. Use a reputable online vendor like BunchesDirect for big savings.

4. Creating an Entrance for the Bride. Use flowers to frame an old doorway, archway or another landmark item to create a memorable “grand entrance” for a bride or the most important person at the event.

5. Guest flowers. A thoughtful touch that will make your guest feel welcome, special and part of your day: Have a selection of beautiful fresh flowers available so they can add one to their outfit and join in your celebration.

6. Signs. Include a special quote, a welcome messages, directions to the bar, or guest seating charts on a pretty sign. The possibilities are endless, but ALL of them are better with fresh flowers!

7. Look Up:  Don’t forget the ceiling in the reception venue. Hang fresh flowers on fishing twine or pretty ribbons and your guests will be buzzing! This is a unique and truly gorgeous addition to any space. Order bulk flowers online and you can actually do this, even if it’s on a smaller scale.

8. Bride and Groom Chairs. Don’t forget to adorn the special places where the married couple will enjoy their first meal.

9. Place Settings. Setting fresh flowers at each guest’s place is a very elegant touch and the perfect way to make each guest feel very special. Flowers at each place also provide extra touches of your wedding or event colors at what could otherwise be a bland spot.

When it comes time to seat your guests at your wedding or event, you want to keep things clear to avoid confusion or mismatched placements. (Heaven help us if great aunt Gertrude ended up seated next to her cousin Harry that she has detested since fifth grade) The solution of course is providing tasteful escort cards, but why settle for plain and boring? Your escort or place cards are a perfect way to add some creative flair and beauty to your event, and there is no better way to accomplish both than by using flowers. (Everything is better with flowers, of course!)

Here are some creative and easy ideas for using fresh flowers as part of your escort cards. Most are very DIY friendly! Be sure to order your bulk flowers from a reputable online vendor such as BunchesDirect and save even more.

DIY Floral Wreaths

What a sweet way to show your guests to their chairs! These adorable miniature wreaths also make wonderful keepsakes for the guests to take home. Choose small grapevine or foam wreaths from your craft store. You will also need floral tape, glue and the fresh flowers of your choice. For a quaint look as shown here, try purple wax flowers with some sprigs of green trachelium. For complete instructions visit ProjectWedding.com

Billy Ball Escort “Stakes”

This is a cute idea! Buy bulk “billy balls” (also known as craspedia) in sunny yellow and use them to fashion these escort stakes by threading the stem through your paper in two places. You can also use wire to strengthen the stems, or even attach the flowers to wooden skewer sticks or dowel rods. Secure the stems into foam inside your container of choice (such as this wooden crate) and cover the foam with decorative moss.

Carnation Escort Card Display

Buy bulk carnations in your fave colors and use a simple glue gun to attach them to a framed board for a quick and beautiful way to display your cards or a seating chart. Anyone can do this and yet it looks so amazing when you are done!

Photo from wedbook.com

Fresh Flowers and Place Cards

Even if you keep things classy and simple by setting traditional place cards by each guest plate, be sure to order some extra flowers, such as these fresh pink roses, to embellish the display. Coordinate the printed flowers on your cards with the fresh flowers at each place. These can be taken home by the guests for a lovely added favor.

Wall Display

Set up a foam or craft board that you cover with fancy paper (even old wallpaper sheets work nicely, or sturdy wrapping paper). Attach simple test tubes. Adorn with the fresh flowers of your choice, such as these gorgeous ranunculus. Attach your guest place card and you will have a very memorable display that all the guests will rave about.

Floral Nest

Another very simple way to add some flair and beauty to your escort card display is to order extra bulk flowers such as pink carnations, set them on your display table, and “nest” the cards instead the petals. It’s so easy and yet so effective! This works especially well for romantic or boho chic style events. Carnations work well as they have delicately ruffled petals, that are still sturdy enough to hold the cards in place.

Escort Card Flower Pots

For a sweet and creative way to display seating lists, find some budget-friendly pots at the dollar or gardening store. You can always spray paint them using your color of choice. Add some floral foam and fresh flowers such as garden roses, dahlias or peonies for a lovely way to present your cards.

Adrienne Bailon is of course, one of the co-hosts on the popular daytime talk show The Real. We love her fashion style and her witty take on things, so it’s little surprise we also LOVED the flowers she chose for her beautiful bridal shower. Read on!

Photo from People.com

Adrienne and fiancé Israel Houghton were friends for years before they become romantically involved. In fact, Adrienne admits she used to set him up with her friends. When things evolved they wanted to be sure that no matter what happened, they would remain friends, but obviously true love blossomed! The pair became engaged in Paris and plan to wed by end of the year.

Photo from People.com

When it came to organizing the bridal shower, Adrienne voted for co-ed, and to honor the place of their engagement, a romantic Parisian theme seemed to be an obvious choice. (Apparently Adrienne was already getting teary even preparing for the shower and can’t wait to be hitched.)

The shower was held at the trendy Fig & Olive restaurant. Both Adrienne and Israel love DIY so they contributed many elements to the shower decorations, such as spray painting the Eiffel tower models rose gold, to match Adrienne’s engagement ring. The pair plan to add DIY elements to their wedding too (can’t wait to see that!). They even set the tables themselves and included framed photos for a personal touch.

Photo from People.com

We loved the flowers they chose! This soft and romantic mix of traditional pink, cream and white blooms such as roses, hydrangeas, and ranunculus is the perfect accent for a dreamy “old world” theme like this one.

Subtle Beauty by BunchesDirect

If you also adored Adrienne’s romantic Parisian theme, try Subtle Beauty Centerpieces from BunchesDirect. This gives you the look at an amazing price! For your bouquets, we suggest Pastel Sparkle, Pink Triumph, Heavenly Morning, Summer Love or World’s Blessing.

We look forward to seeing the flowers that Adrienne and Israel choose for their soon-to-happen wedding day. Stay tuned!
