What a wedding! We were eagerly anticipating the wedding of Pitch Perfect stars Anna Camp and Skylar Astin and we were not disappointed in the least! The handsome due was hitched on Saturday September 10 at the gorgeous Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez, California. Anna looked pretty perfect herself in a Reem Acra gown, while Skylar was handsome in his Ermenegildo Zegna tuxedo.

The details were superb! And the flowers are truly drool worthy, designed by Lotus and Lily Floral. There were flowers, flowers and more flowers, which apparently Anna can’t get enough of. We loved this amazing backdrop of assorted pastel blooms and greenery used to frame the guest welcome sign.We also adored the vine and flower covered wedding arch, the beautiful romantic table settings, and this stunning and highly romantic vignette of flowers peeking out of a vintage dresser (swoon)!

The ceremony took place outdoors, beneath a stunning floral arch, and more mixed greens were used to accent the aisle. If you would like your own floral arch it’s not out of reach! Order bulk flowers and DIY a version yourself. Check out our Floral Backdrops blog to learn more. The couples’ Puggle, Rocky, did duty as ring bearer.

A cocktail hour followed, and then guests moved to the reception area which was adorned by small lights. A similar mix of pastel flowers adorned the tables, in soft  and romantic shades of peach, pink and lavender. Apparently the couple was inspired by the natural beauty of a sunset and wanted colors in similar shades. They incorporated these shades into every aspect of their wedding from the invitations to the linens. The flowers on the tables were absolutely superb!

We LOVED this simple but elegant escort presentation! Grab this idea and try it for your own event; you can even find accessible bud vases at the local dollar store, and buy your roses in bulk from a reputable online vendor such as BunchesDIrect.

These beautiful accents wee enjoyed by about 100 guests, including fellow cast mates Rebel Wilson, Elizabeth Banks and Brittany Snow, who served as bridesmaid. After sunset, the after party took pace down in the caves of the winery, which was transformed into a disco complete with red lights and disco balls.

Anna and Josh looked ecstatically happy after their very special day, and we also love yet another look at her amazing pink, lavender and peach roses.

We wish them all the best! .

If you are planning a wedding or event, choosing the color scheme is likely to be one of your earliest decisions. Choosing your flowers will also be a key step. There is little else that has the same visual impact as flowers, which can dress the tables, the ceremony, the venue and enhance your overall theme and experience. Flowers can be one of the best ways to support the color scheme you have selected. But what colors coordinate with best results?

To help you we’ve selected some of the most popular and beautiful color combinations for events, and matched them with the our top flower picks. Some are contemporary; most are timeless. Read on and see which one inspires you most!

Navy Blue and White

You can’t go wrong with this classic and timeless pairing! Navy and white will always look crisp, chic and elegant. It works in traditional settings (think navy and white china urns filled with sophisticated white roses) or in more casual nautical or beach themes.

Choose blue and white or blue vases or containers, and fill with white blooms such as roses, white hydrangea, stephanotis, spider mums, alstroemeria, orchids, baby’s breath or calla lilies. Or let the flowers be your “something blue” and opt for blue iris or blue hydrangea.

Pink, Gray, Cream

This combination works for any season. It is very elegant and current, soft and tasteful. It’s also a lovely way to balance out more traditionally masculine and feminine colors. The coolness of the gray is a perfect balance for the delicate warmth of the pink. . This choice would work well in either traditional or streamlined events. Cream or pink roses would work beautifully with this combo, or even try bronze fuji spider mums to give a modern textural edge to this soft palette.

Yellow and Purple

These colors are complementary, coordinating but with high contrast, so combining them creates vibrancy, warmth, energy and a more modern vibe. This color combo would work well in a variety of settings, from indoor chic to outdoor farmyard. Try beautiful purple and yellow chrysanthemums,or  purple alstroemeria with yellow roses for a vivid and pleasing combo.

Pink Twinkle by BunchesDirect

Pink, Pink and more Pink

Keep this color scheme from getting dull or too monochromatic by using varied shades of pink. Any shade of pink plays well with its other pink family members, from hot pink, to pale blush, to deep rose. This is a perfect combo for romantic weddings with a traditional vibe but can be adapted to any setting. Choose flowers like roses, garden roses, peonies, lilies, or ranunculus. for a truly dreamy combination.

Red and Pink

Yes, these colors do go together! This combo creates a bold effect that takes pink up a notch from its soft and dreamy aspect. Perfect (of course) for those of you who love romance with a  more modern edge, or for a Valentines’ Day wedding or event. Try pink dahlias or even pink anenomes with red roses, or pink roses with red ranunculus.

Orange and Red

Perfect for late summer or fall events! This color makes us think of warm August days, or the richness of autumn leaves. It creates energy and vibrance. It would also work well for tropical or beach-themed weddings. Try orange asiatic lilies, red roses or orange carnations in this vibrant look.

Need inspiration for your wedding or event flowers? If you are a DIY type and would love to tackle your flowers personally, there are a myriad of easy options for you. One of the hottest trends is to “mix and match” your vases and blooms, and this is perfect for the DIY bride or event planner!

While many brides and event planners adore uniformity, there is no hard and fast rule that says you need one centerpiece in the middle of your table, and that all your vases and flower types should be the same. The “mix and match” trend incorporates a selection of your favorite blooms. Use the same vases or mix those up too. Make sure they still “match” either by color choice, vase choice, or shape and the array will work.

This approach is extremely flexible for your budget as well, letting you pick as many or as few blooms as you would like. If you aren’t sure which blooms will go together, let your experienced floral consultant guide you. Buying in bulk will save you lots of money also!

Above: These vases may be a bit different in shape but they are visually cohesive due to their glass construction. This beautiful mix of spring flowers such a pink peonies, iris, and waxflower or stock coordinates into a lovely display for dining or to accent a buffet or seating card table. Pink and purples work well together, so feel free to select your faves as a mix of these will “match” and still be pleasing to the eye.

This floral display uses an assortment of different vases. You can create this look by covering mason jars or plain vases with burlap, twine or lace from the craft store. This mix of blooms includes roses, dahlias, and limonium. The “mix and match” trend works especially well for a boho or shabby chic event! It can help create a fresh-from-the-garden look that also gives a more casual or vintage vibe.

Ranunculus mixes well with tulips and waxflower in pastel colors for this eclectic mix at an outdoor event. Mixing the heights of the containers creates visual interest.

The trend is still adaptable to more formal events! Another way to incorporate this look is to mix up the types of flowers, but keep the color consistent, Here, a mix of white blooms works beautifully to create a unique and interesting display at the head table. Consider lilies, stephanotis, roses, and alstroemeria for an interesting blend of blooms.

Another excellent mix of white flowers: bells of ireland, hydrangea and calla lilies (as shown left). The color consistency supports the slightly more formal setting, while the mix of blooms keeps things from being too stuffy or traditional.

Create a more exotic vibe by using orange as the unifying color. Mix it up by choosing a variety of vases and containers, in different heights. Try flowers like asiatic lilies, gerbera daisies, or protea for some vivid visual punch.

Don’t restrict the “mixing and matching” to just the flowers and vases! Incorporate some of your other favorite accessories to create very unique and memorable floral displays for your tables. Even with this mix of items, the match comes fro the use of mercury glass and silver along with the peach and cream flowers.

Pick an assortment of your favorite blooms and containers and enjoy the possibilities! Your friendly floral consultant can advise you how much of each bloom you will need to create your visual masterpiece. Best of all, your event flowers will be unlike anyone else’s!

There are some people—wrong as they may be—who think the beautiful carnation is not a first choice, first class flower. While it’s true that carnations are one of the most budget-friendly choices, it’s also true that they are truly one of the most lovely and versatile event flowers you can select. The low price is just a bonus!

Carnations have an amazing texture, like elegant ruffles, and many varieties come with a soft, spicy fragrance. They come in a truly amazing multitude of colors (even green) and shades which makes working with them an additional pleasure.

Monochrome Carnations

Use all one color of carnations and let their texture do the talking. One color will create a big pop of visual impact for your tables or venue. Coordinate with your theme colors or choose a complimentary shade to accent them. Or, create an ombre effect by setting up a mass of carnations that run from dark to light shades of a single color.

Even a simple grouping of white carnations looks amazing in a modern glass cube vase.

Pomanders (Kissing Balls)

Carnations may look delicate, but are one of the heartiest flowers you can choose. They don’t wilt easily in a hot venue and aren’t too fussy about humidity or lots of water. Pomanders can be made with multi-colored carnations and set in different shaped vases, set on tables, hung from trees, suspended from shepherd’s hooks…the possibilities are endless. Set them down the middle of the table to use as your centerpiece!

Because carnations are sturdy, with thicker stalks, they are also a perfect choice for creating hanging “flower curtains” or other floral backdrops. This is a great project for the DIY planner who has lots of helpful friends! Fishing wire, needles and bulk carnations are all you really need. Click to read more about Floral Backdrops.

One of the most popular flowers for weddings and events is definitely daisies! These sweet and beautiful flowers have been loved since ancient times. (There have been daisies found in some of the Egyptian temple gardens dating back to 2200 BCE!)

The daisy is traditionally associated with childhood innocence, modesty, and gentleness, as well as with loyalty and everlasting love, making them especially suited to weddings. From Victorian days, young ladies often plucked daisy petals with the old  “he loves me, he loves me not” repetition to determine if their love was true. Apart from their romantic connotations, historically daisies have been practical too. They have been used to treat a wide list of ailments, from eye problems, to stomach ulcers, gout, fever and wounds.

Today daisies remain a much loved choice because they are beautiful as well as hearty. They come in a wide range of colors, sizes, and varieties, making them a very versatile choice —there is a perfect daisy for any event! They are also budget-friendly, which is an added bonus.

Some of the most popular daisy choices include the larger and more well known chrysanthemum daisies. These come in a variety of lovely colors, from pure white to rich purple, soft lavender and fresh pinks. They mix beautifully with other blooms such as roses, hydrangeas or lilies.

Button daisies are a wonderful accent flower. They add a pop of color and texture to bridal bouquets or centerpieces, are sturdy and compact.

Daisies are perfect for outdoor events, such as summer picnics, rustic summer weddings, and can enhance even an elegant arrangement. They are perfect for boho chic events, or more relaxed “farmhouse” themes.

If you are crazy for daisies, you can’t go wrong! Whichever type or color of daisy you choose, your wedding or event will always be enhanced by these lovely blooms.

Carnations

Carnations are so beautiful and yet are often undervalued for their ability to enhance a bouquet or table arrangement. We have no idea why! Their sweet ruffled petals add true elegance, while being long lasting and surprisingly hearty after cutting. They come in a myriad of wonderful colors that can coordinate with many themes and palettes.Their general hardiness also means they work well in DIY creations too, like pomander balls, garlands and floral accent walls.

Chrysanthemum

Many of us simply call them “mums,” to refer to these beautiful and generous blooms. Chrysanthemums come in rich colors and have a full, exotic appearance that can lend a lot of impact and texture to bouquets and arrangements. They can be combined with other flowers for an “elegant” presentation or kept minimal and vivid for a more rustic or informal event.
