Drew married Will Kopelman in an intimate ceremony at her home in June 2012. Drew’s beautiful bouquet featured lush peonies and garden roses in various shades of hot pink and pink. The end result was a charming and ‘fresh from the garden” look that perfectly complemented her sweet and simple ruffled gown. We loved it! (But too bad the marriage itself fizzled out in April 2016…)

This month we are pleased to offer you another guest post from our Canadian partner, Best for Bride. Please enjoy, and if you are in the Toronto area, be sure to visit one of the four Best of Bride locations and receive a free BunchesDirect.ca $50 gift card with your dress purchase!

Flowers have always inspired weddings, finding their way into everything from décor and dresses to bridal jewelry and accessories. Just like they spruce up the ambiance of a wedding with their romantic touch, these beauties can also enhance the femininity of a bride on her special day.

In fact, there is nothing like fresh blooms to add extra charm to the bridal look. Best for Bride, the bridal fashion expert from Canada, suggests the following interesting ways to accessorize your wedding outfit with flowers. Check it out!

The traditional bridal bouquet

Powerful Pink by BunchesDirect

The bridal bouquet is a wedding staple; one that is an essential part of the bridal ensemble. Bouquets come in different colors, shapes and styles, so there are enough choices for both traditional and modern brides to choose from. Your bouquet should reflect the wedding theme and should neither be too big nor too small for your frame. If your bridesmaids will be carrying bouquets, your bouquet and theirs should have a cohesive look.

Romantic flower crowns

Flower crowns are beautiful hair accessories that look good on almost any bride. While bigger blooms and thicker crowns have a rustic and casual appeal, delicate floral crowns with pretty little flowers are elegant and whimsical. Floral crowns can be fashioned in different styles, and can be placed in a variety of ways. Popular choices include half and full-flower crowns that are either wrapped around the head or angled to one side.  You can create your crown with flowers from your décor, and it will integrate your look with the overall theme. Nevertheless, always try to choose flowers that will stay fresh for longer, so it doesn’t wilt and ruin your fresh look. Read more about making floral crowns.

Flowers woven into the hairdo

Whether you choose to tuck a single flower into your up-do, or weave a scattering of tiny blooms into your hair, fresh flowers are wonderful accessories for your hair. Floral accents that are woven into the hair and look like they belong there are refreshing and unique. Almost any flower can be used for this purpose, and thick textured flowers are particularly easy to incorporate into any hairstyle. They look perfect on summer and Boho brides. Take a look at this article on Brides for some fabulous inspiration on adding flowers to your bridal hairstyle.

Flower bracelets

Classic White Rose BunchesDirect

Wrist corsages are a popular bridesmaid accessory. However, they can also be used by the bride who wants more flower power in her wedding day look. A bunch of beautiful flowers around your wrist will add an exotic touch to your ensemble. Also, since your hands will be photographed a lot, this is a great way to make it look unique. When designing a flower bracelet, check with your florist to pick flowers of the right size that match the dimensions of your arms. Mix-and-match floral bracelets are just as popular as those with a single focal flower and dainty ones around it.

Floral waistband

A floral waistband would be a perfect accessory for a bride at a garden wedding. Flowers can be woven on to a sash or belt, and tied in the center or to one side of your dress. This is an easy and effective way to draw attention to your tiny, slender waist. Just as with choosing flowers for your flower crown, you have to consider how sturdy the flowers are when adding them to your waistband. Flowers that wilt easily or can’t stand the strain of too much movement can ruin the overall effect. Discuss this factor with your florist, and she can help you choose the best combination of blooms to avoid this.

Flower anklet

When the hemline of your wedding dress barely skims your ankles, or your wedding dress has a slit that exposes your feet, a flower anklet is perfect to dress up your dainty feet and add a touch of color. They are incredibly romantic and a wonderful foot accessory for beach brides, who have many constraints when choosing footwear. It will also work well for garden and Boho wedding themes, as long as the wedding dress isn’t too long to block it from view. Whether you choose to keep it light and small or rich in color and texture, a flower anklet will add signature style to your bridal look. For some irresistible, gorgeous floral anklet designs, take a look at this page on the Flyaway bride blog. You can also order a beautiful fresh corsage from BunchesDirect.ca and wear it on your ankle!

Flower garter

You can add an interesting twist to the traditional wedding garter by fashioning it out of flowers. This will be a fantastic change to the typical lace and satin garter. Trust your florist to do this for you with the flowers that you love. Either have the flowers added to an elasticated band that you pull onto your leg, or have it stitched into a ribbon that can be tied around your leg so it fits just right.

3-D Florals on wedding dress

If you love flowers, add even more of them to your wedding day look! A 3-D floral wedding dress provides even more blooms for you to enjoy. This huge trend features wedding dresses with remarkable floral motifs and accents that pop out and look real. The 3-D effect results from the mixing of different fabric textures like lace and net, over satin or chiffon for a pronounced effect.

Coming up with your centerpieces is always one of the most important, and sometimes the most difficult, decisions when planning your event. Most of us think of traditional vases for our centerpieces, in various shapes and materials. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your containers! They can be the best way to incorporate a theme and set up some unique table settings that will have your guests talking for months to come.

And what is one of the best sources for inspiration when it comes to creative containers? Your own kitchen! A rummage through your shelves can yield some wonderful ideas for how to create some truly special centerpieces. Once you choose your container, you can find the numbers you will need from online suppliers, through kitchen supply stores, or local shops including your dollar store. Buy fresh bulk flowers to complete your look. Make things even easier by choosing a beautiful ready-made centerpiece from BunchesDirect. Our centerpieces come assembled and ready to be trimmed to whatever height you need for your own container.

Pretty teapots and stacked plates make for very lovely, and unique, centerpieces! Check out local garage sales, vintage shops or second hand stores for a wonderful budget-friendly selection. This idea would be especially suitable to a bridal shower, a lunch, a tea, or any afternoon event. These pink roses are a lovely complement to the old fashioned charm!

Cake stands are a perfect way to create a very unique and elegant centerpiece, and an easy way to provide height and interest to any table! They also make for a very easy DIY project. Your selection of blooms is endless, and what you choose can suit the formality and the type of event. Choose traditional flowers like roses, peonies or ranunculus for a more traditional affair or vintage theme. Choose bolder blooms like gerbera daisies or bright carnations for a less formal event.

Wine glasses are a go-to way to create beautiful centerpieces on a budget! Use them upside down with blooms under the glass, or right side up as lovely footed vases for your favourite blooms. These fresh tulips are the perfect complement! Try martini or margarita glasses for other fun ideas. Stemless wine glasses will also work—just put the head of one bloom in each glass for a very pretty effect.

Photo from Pinterest.com

Galvanized buckets make for great centerpiece containers too. Use this look to create a more informal feel. This would be perfect at a country or beach wedding. Choose flowers like these hydrangeas, snapdragons, roses and alstroemeria for a perfect look!

Photo from omglifestyle.com

Grab your favorite mixing bowl and set up a beautiful centerpiece! Don’t be afraid to mix styles and patterns on your various tables. (This is another great excuse to tour your local garage sales or vintage shops!) These beautiful fresh peonies are the perfect addition to this vintage bowl. Tip: use masking tape to create a grid pattern across the top of the bowl. This will keep your blooms arranged with ease and precision.

If you have the kitchen containers ready to go, but you aren’t sure what to put in them, go with ready-made centerpieces that you can trim to your needs. We’ve collected a few to show you here, but be sure and see all centerpieces at BunchesDirect. Have fun rummaging in your own kitchen—you never know where inspiration can strike!

If you’re a fan of Million Dollar Listing, then you have no doubt been following the romance between stars Josh Altman, and Heather Bilyeu. Both are realtors on the hit reality series, and have been in a relationship for the past five years (after meeting through Josh’s rival realtor, Madison.) They were engaged in 2013 and originally intended to wed in 2014, but put the wedding on hold to focus on more “important” aspects of their relationship. They finally tied the knot on Saturday April 2, 2016.

Friday night the pair enjoyed a rehearsal dinner with close friends and had plenty of laughs during their comedy-style “roast.”

Josh Altman Instagram

The wedding itself took place Saturday afternoon at the swanky St. Regis Aspen Resort in Aspen, Colorado, with 87 guests in attendance. Guests sipped on hot chocolate and hot apple cider before the outdoor, traditional Jewish ceremony began. Heather, 31, wore a strapless custom gown by Nektaria, while Josh, 37, stayed sleek and traditional in a modern black tuxedo. Heather’s gown included more than 6500 pearls and beads as well as a long, flowing train. She wore a sheer cape for the ceremony to keep her shoulders covered.

Josh Altman Instagram

According to Heather, much of the wedding theme was influenced by the setting. “Aspen Mountain [was] the backdrop of the ceremony,” She explained. “We really wanted to … have our décor work with that and showcase the mountain and play up the rustic Aspen vibes.” We adore all the rustic intertwined branches, the natural stumps, as well as the white candles and mix of white blooms used to accent the venue. Flowers included a beautiful choice of white hydrangeas, dahlias, roses, gladiolus and more for a lush, natural look.. (All blooms area available in bulk at BunchesDirect so you can create your own “Aspen” look, for less!)

The pair preferred to keep their celebration very ‘family-oriented,” as Josh explained. The reception was held at Caribou Club Lodge, and featured traditional comfort foods such as truffle French fries, mac and cheese balls, and pigs in a blanket.

Josh shared an Instagram photo of the couple posed in front of the Aspen scenery, pre- ceremony.

In March, the couple enjoyed a luxurious bridal shower that included a custom perfume bar. We loved the floral touches, including the beautiful flower wall that served as a gorgeous backdrop for guest photos. We also love, love, loved the tall centerpieces and floral accents, that included orchids, hydrangeas, pink, peach, pale yellow and white roses in a romantic, feminine mix. The bouquet is a very important accessory for your bridesmaids. So, you should pay attention to choosing the right shape, size and flowers in these bouquets, so they contribute to the overall wedding scenery. Best for Bride suggests that prospective brides keep the following factors in mind when choosing bridesmaids bouquets, so they come together beautifully and have maximum visual impact.

Know the best color options

Photo from projectwedding.com

You may be tempted to match the flowers to the dress color you picked for your bridesmaids. This may not be a good idea as flowers of the exact color will be lost in the background of the dress. The better option is to choose flowers that are a few shades darker or lighter than the dress color. If you do not want a monochromatic bouquet, the options are endless. Look to the color wheel for inspiration. When your chosen flowers and bridesmaid dress color are opposite to each other on the color wheel, the contrasting combination will make them pop. Using complimentary colors that are close to each other, like blue and green or yellow and orange, will create a relaxed effect.

Match the silhouette and style

The bouquet shape and size should reflect the style of the dress. Snug-fitting, well shaped gowns look best with small, sleek bouquets, while layered dresses with volume go well with round bouquets.

Also balance the colors and details in the bouquet to the dress design. For a simple dress, you can use more colors in the bouquet. However, if the bridesmaid dress has details like prints, embellishments or waistbands, keep the bouquet simple so the overall look isn’t cluttered.

Choose the right size

Classic White Calla Lily Bouquet

Unless the bouquet size is proportionate to that of the bridesmaid holding it, it will not look good. If the women in your bridal party are of different sizes, you may like to match individual bouquets to the woman carrying it.

A bouquet that is too large can be overwhelming on a small frame, while a tiny bouquet may not be the best accessory for a woman with a large frame. A medium-size bouquet would be better for the bigger women in your bridal party, while you can go with small ones for the rest of the group.

Co-ordinate the bouquets with your own

Classic Pink Tulip Bouquet

Your bouquet and the bridesmaids bouquets should form a cohesive look. You can achieve this by choosing scaled-down versions of your own bouquet, for them. Or you can have a unifying element, like a matching accessory that ties it together.

The other option is to fit the different bouquet designs to a single color or design theme that brings it all together. BunchesDirect has different sized bouquet options in the same group, in bridal, bridesmaids, flower girls, and even toss bouquet sizes, so it’s easy to create a cohesive look. BunchesDirect also has coordinating boutonnieres and corsages to complete the look.
