Old Fashioned Flowers

Flowers like mums, carnations and daisies are making a comeback! This is also wonderful news for your budget as these beautiful flowers also tend to be some of the most cost effective. This vintage look will continue to trend big in the new year. Think also roses, hydrangeas, peonies and other old fashioned blooms and add special charm to your big day.

Floral Table Runners

More couples or event planners are opting out of traditional centerpieces in vases in favor of the more “wild” and unstructured look of a floral table runner. You can DIY this too: simply pick your fave flowers and greens and artfully arrange them down the middle of your tables. Your guests are sure to be impressed!

Flower Colors: Neutrals plus Bolds

Forever Connecting BunchesDirect

Blush continues to be hot for 2017, especially when you pair a relative neutral such as blush, cream or white flowers, with a more saturated hue. Think cream paired with deep burgundy blooms, rich coral paired with pale dove accents, blush paired with hot pink or red. Mixing light with dark flowers gives life and energy to your arrangements and will keep things looking fresh and current.

Creative Containers

Photo from modernwedding.com

We are also seeing more use of containers such a lanterns, mercury glass globes vases, vintage etched glass jars, or gold footed vases instead of more common looking vases. Again, creating a unique, unstructured ambiance or old world charm is a great way to go in 2017.

Audrina Patridge and longtime love Corey Bohan may have taken eight years to actually tie the knot, but it was worth the wait!

Audrina and BMX bike rider Corey wed in beautiful Hawaii on Saturday, November 5 in an intimate celebration with 100 close friends and family. Their fourth-month old daughter Kirra was also part of the special day!

Audrina shone in a lacy mermaid gown custom made by Pallas Couture. . She wanted their day to be romantic yet with bohemian elements and her gown with its beautiful French chantilly lace and sheer skirt fit the theme perfectly. Corey paired khakis with a crisp white shirt and suspenders which certainly lent a more casual vibe to the event. Audrina used red flowers to adorn her hair. We also adored the beautiful archway decorated with rich red and  pink blooms such as roses, garden roses, and ranunculus woven with seeded eucalyptus and other greens. Guest threw flower petals in the air to celebrate their love. (Hint: you can purchase your own bulk rose petals online, create this romantic vibe, and save!)

The bridal bouquets were gorgeous! Created by Steven Boyle Designs, they worked perfectly with the “bohemian” vibe as well as the glorious Hawaiian wedding location. They were a lush, artful mix with a “freshly gathered” feel that kept them from being too fussy or formal, while still providing plenty of romance with their rich color scheme.

Morgan Childs of Moana Events helped organize the day and the couple’s fun reception afterward. A very happy Audrina relayed, “I was so nervous, but as soon as I saw all of our friends, family and Corey, all I could feel was happiness and love everywhere.”

ff you love Audrina’s wedding flowers, check out bulk red roses, seeded eucalyptus, pink garden roses and pink ranunculus from BunchesDirect. You could also choose beautiful ready-made bridal bouquets such as Forever Connecting, Wild Beauty or Crimson Dream. Many more romantic and “bohemian” bouquets available at the website.

We’ve all heard of “landscape” as in “all the visible features of an area of countryside or land, often considered in terms of their aesthetic appeal” (yes, we broke out the dictionary for this!). We all recall the powerful impact of standing at a particular site and taking survey of a gorgeous vista. When you are decorating your wedding or event, don’t overlook the importance of one of the key elements of your venue: your tables, and the view that your guests will have of them. The visible appeal you create with this “tablescape,” both from close up, when guests are seated, and from farther back, when guests first enter the room, can provide you with massive visual appeal at your event.

There are a few key elements to remember when creating your own tablescape. Flowers are always a key element so don’t forget to order enough to create your vision. Read on to ensure your success!

Different Heights

Photo from Chic Brown Brides

It’s important to vary the heights of your items. Include some tall elements such as candlesticks, lanterns or big vases, and also some lower elements such as votives, mirrors, small bud vases, or pretty napkin rings.

Varied Patterns and Textures

Choosing textiles, dishes and glassware in varied patterns, colors and textures is another surefire way to add lots of visual impact and interest to any tablescape. Don’t be afraid to mix and match so long as one aspect, such as a key color, is consistent.

Abundance is Awesome

Don’t be shy when setting up a tablescape. Adding in lots of interesting or unexpected elements will result in more visual appeal, and will also stimulate conversation between your guests. This woodland tablescape (above) has a lot of unique elements including fruit, wooden stumps with glass votives, taller candlesticks, wooden place settings, miss, bark and many other interesting touches.

Use the Space around the Table

Photo from Sandra Lee Tablescapes, Foodnetwork.com

Don’t overlook the ceiling above the table, or the space surrounding it. Some key decor elements can be layered in to create even more impact over the most “important” tables such as the head table at a wedding, or the buffet table at the event.

Bulk Flowers and Color

Photo from verandah.com

An easier way to create a tablescape with a ton of impact is to buy an assortment of fresh and beautiful bulk flowers. Simply arrange a generous array of blooms around your place settings for instant visual appeal. Choose vivid colors and high contrast with textiles for even more impact!

Bold and Monochromatic

Photo from Celebrate and Decorate

If you are not as into high contrast, sticking with all one color for your floral accents is another relatively easy way to create a successful tablescape. In the photo above, dishes and linens were kept white, and all flowers yellow. Again, vary the heights of your accent pieces for more visual interest, as was done with these tall and medium-sized pitchers as vases, flowers in the low teacups, plus the loose flowers resting on each place.

Flowers, and more Flowers

Photo from BridaMusings.com

We said it before, but we will say it again– don’t overlook the impact of fresh flowers! Flowers will provide instant color, texture, freshness and beauty to anchor any tablescape. Don’t be afraid to order plenty; if you choose a reputable online vendor you can achieve gorgeous results at a low price.

One of the most popular flowers for weddings and events is definitely daisies! These sweet and beautiful flowers have been loved since ancient times. (There have been daisies found in some of the Egyptian temple gardens dating back to 2200 BCE!)

The daisy is traditionally associated with childhood innocence, modesty, and gentleness, as well as with loyalty and everlasting love, making them especially suited to weddings. From Victorian days, young ladies often plucked daisy petals with the old  “he loves me, he loves me not” repetition to determine if their love was true. Apart from their romantic connotations, historically daisies have been practical too. They have been used to treat a wide list of ailments, from eye problems, to stomach ulcers, gout, fever and wounds.

Today daisies remain a much loved choice because they are beautiful as well as hearty. They come in a wide range of colors, sizes, and varieties, making them a very versatile choice —there is a perfect daisy for any event! They are also budget-friendly, which is an added bonus.

Some of the most popular daisy choices include the larger and more well known chrysanthemum daisies. These come in a variety of lovely colors, from pure white to rich purple, soft lavender and fresh pinks. They mix beautifully with other blooms such as roses, hydrangeas or lilies.

Gerbera daisies were discovered in South Africa in the late nineteenth century. They are a gorgeous choice for almost any event that has a slightly more modern or informal aspect. They come in a variety of vivid colors, such as deep orange, hot pink and bright yellow.

Button daisies are a wonderful accent flower. They add a pop of color and texture to bridal bouquets or centerpieces, are sturdy and compact.

Daisies are perfect for outdoor events, such as summer picnics, rustic summer weddings, and can enhance even an elegant arrangement. They are perfect for boho chic events, or more relaxed “farmhouse” themes.

If you are crazy for daisies, you can’t go wrong! Whichever type or color of daisy you choose, your wedding or event will always be enhanced by these lovely blooms.

This month we are pleased to offer you another guest post from our Canadian partner, Best for Bride. Please enjoy, and if you are in the Toronto area, be sure to visit one of the four Best of Bride locations and receive a free BunchesDirect.ca $50 gift card with your dress purchase!

Flowers have always inspired weddings, finding their way into everything from décor and dresses to bridal jewelry and accessories. Just like they spruce up the ambiance of a wedding with their romantic touch, these beauties can also enhance the femininity of a bride on her special day.

In fact, there is nothing like fresh blooms to add extra charm to the bridal look. Best for Bride, the bridal fashion expert from Canada, suggests the following interesting ways to accessorize your wedding outfit with flowers. Check it out!

The traditional bridal bouquet

Powerful Pink by BunchesDirect

The bridal bouquet is a wedding staple; one that is an essential part of the bridal ensemble. Bouquets come in different colors, shapes and styles, so there are enough choices for both traditional and modern brides to choose from. Your bouquet should reflect the wedding theme and should neither be too big nor too small for your frame. If your bridesmaids will be carrying bouquets, your bouquet and theirs should have a cohesive look.

Romantic flower crowns

Flower crowns are beautiful hair accessories that look good on almost any bride. While bigger blooms and thicker crowns have a rustic and casual appeal, delicate floral crowns with pretty little flowers are elegant and whimsical. Floral crowns can be fashioned in different styles, and can be placed in a variety of ways. Popular choices include half and full-flower crowns that are either wrapped around the head or angled to one side.  You can create your crown with flowers from your décor, and it will integrate your look with the overall theme. Nevertheless, always try to choose flowers that will stay fresh for longer, so it doesn’t wilt and ruin your fresh look. Read more about making floral crowns.

Flowers woven into the hairdo

Whether you choose to tuck a single flower into your up-do, or weave a scattering of tiny blooms into your hair, fresh flowers are wonderful accessories for your hair. Floral accents that are woven into the hair and look like they belong there are refreshing and unique. Almost any flower can be used for this purpose, and thick textured flowers are particularly easy to incorporate into any hairstyle. They look perfect on summer and Boho brides. Take a look at this article on Brides for some fabulous inspiration on adding flowers to your bridal hairstyle.

Flower bracelets

Classic White Rose BunchesDirect

Wrist corsages are a popular bridesmaid accessory. However, they can also be used by the bride who wants more flower power in her wedding day look. A bunch of beautiful flowers around your wrist will add an exotic touch to your ensemble. Also, since your hands will be photographed a lot, this is a great way to make it look unique. When designing a flower bracelet, check with your florist to pick flowers of the right size that match the dimensions of your arms. Mix-and-match floral bracelets are just as popular as those with a single focal flower and dainty ones around it.

Floral waistband

A floral waistband would be a perfect accessory for a bride at a garden wedding. Flowers can be woven on to a sash or belt, and tied in the center or to one side of your dress. This is an easy and effective way to draw attention to your tiny, slender waist. Just as with choosing flowers for your flower crown, you have to consider how sturdy the flowers are when adding them to your waistband. Flowers that wilt easily or can’t stand the strain of too much movement can ruin the overall effect. Discuss this factor with your florist, and she can help you choose the best combination of blooms to avoid this.

Flower anklet

When the hemline of your wedding dress barely skims your ankles, or your wedding dress has a slit that exposes your feet, a flower anklet is perfect to dress up your dainty feet and add a touch of color. They are incredibly romantic and a wonderful foot accessory for beach brides, who have many constraints when choosing footwear. It will also work well for garden and Boho wedding themes, as long as the wedding dress isn’t too long to block it from view. Whether you choose to keep it light and small or rich in color and texture, a flower anklet will add signature style to your bridal look. For some irresistible, gorgeous floral anklet designs, take a look at this page on the Flyaway bride blog. You can also order a beautiful fresh corsage from BunchesDirect.ca and wear it on your ankle!

Flower garter

You can add an interesting twist to the traditional wedding garter by fashioning it out of flowers. This will be a fantastic change to the typical lace and satin garter. Trust your florist to do this for you with the flowers that you love. Either have the flowers added to an elasticated band that you pull onto your leg, or have it stitched into a ribbon that can be tied around your leg so it fits just right.

3-D Florals on wedding dress

If you love flowers, add even more of them to your wedding day look! A 3-D floral wedding dress provides even more blooms for you to enjoy. This huge trend features wedding dresses with remarkable floral motifs and accents that pop out and look real. The 3-D effect results from the mixing of different fabric textures like lace and net, over satin or chiffon for a pronounced effect.
